Prepare for Spring

Here is a nice needed refresher on allergy causes, symptoms, and treatments in order to prepare for spring season and take care of ourselves during changing times.

Allergy triggers can include airborne allergies, certain types of food, and more. The way the immune system reacts to these harmless substances is by producing many antibodies to “attack” the allergen. Allergens are harmless and yet cause allergic reactions. One such theory is the “hygiene hypothesis”, which says that kids aren’t being exposed to enough germs at a young age, therefore not allowing them to differentiate between harmful and harmless irritants. Other explanations include genetic or environmental linkages. A family history of asthma or allergies can make you more susceptible to symptoms, as well as environmental factors such as high pollution and stress. Stress can actually make an allergic reaction worse. The reasoning is not yet conclusive, but it is thought that stress hormones can add on to an already amplified immune system response to allergens.  However, there is not just one explanation.

The different types of allergic diseases include allergic rhinitis (hay fever), eczema, hives, asthma, and food allergy. Allergy symptoms depend on the allergen being reacted to, but can affect your skin, sinuses, nasal passages, airways, and digestive system. In particular, allergic rhinitis refers to seasonal allergies occurring anytime between spring and fall, but many people experience a version of allergic rhinitis year-round. Symptoms include headaches, sneezing, congestion, watery and swollen eyes, and itchiness in the nose, eyes, or mouth. Common reactions from all these spring allergies include itchiness and inflammation of specific organs of the body, due to the release of histamines by the immune system. Further complications can also arise, including the onset of asthma and sinusitis.

There are various products and daily adherences used to address symptoms. Over the counter (OTC) corticosteroid nasal sprays and antihistamines are common solutions used to reduce inflammation. Daily adherences can include methods of stress reduction, keeping windows closed to avoid exposure, and more. The biggest setback to these solutions is their temporariness, therefore lacking attention on prevention. Forces of Nature’s Allergy Maximum Strength is a great alternative to these solutions. It is a sublingual immunotherapy option, which is a type of allergy treatment endorsed by the World Health Organization. This product inhibits your body’s inflammatory response to allergens and gradually desensitizes you to substances that cause your allergic reactions through all natural, organic ingredients. Try homeopathic allergies remedies this spring!
