Goldenrods contain flavonoids and saponins which are believed to have anti-inflammatory properties. Due to this, goldenrods have been used in herbal medicine to treat inflammation. Goldenrods can treat conditions such as urinary tract infections and kidney stones becauseof their diuretic properties that help flush out toxins from the urinary system. They also have been known to help with wound healing, respiratory conditions, and digestive issues.

USAGE

While goldenrods can be consumed in salads and teas, it is more known to be used specifically for traditional and medicinal purposes. Those applications include tinctures (concentrated extracts), capsules or tablets, and topically for wounds and skin irritations. Goldenrods can also be infused into honey and then used in teas for its many health benefits. Other use cases include inhaling the steam of goldenrod leaves that have been placed in a hot bowl of water, or even directly placing them into a warm bath.

Tribes such as the Cherokee have used goldenrods to make a poultice for wounds, while the Iroquois used it to treat internal bleeding. Many blame goldenrods for causing hay fever, but they are not a significant allergen.
