    Commonly known as basil, it is considered to have great significance in Hinduism and is commonly referred to as Holy basil or “Tulsi.” Tulsi is considered sacred, is often worshiped, and used in various religious ceremonies and rituals. This is why it is common to see Tulsi grown around Hindu temples and homes. Ocimum spread to Europe and other parts of the world after being discovered by Alexander the Great during his campaigns in Asia. Today, it is a common staple in kitchens worldwide.
